HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Davis & Elkins men's tennis team opened its spring season with a 4-3 victory over King University on Sunday. The Senators rallied from an early deficit after dropping the doubles point, claiming four of six singles matches to secure the win.
Filippo Buffo clinched the decisive point for D&E with a 6-0, 3-6, 10-3 victory at No. 6 singles. His win followed straight-set victories by Viktor Yanev, Duarte Correia, and Justus Petersilie, pushing the Senators to the brink of victory.
"I was very pleased we could overcome some adversity and get a win this weekend," head coach Mark Walters said. "We have struggled to get any quality practice time in and had no set play at all coming in, so it is a good sign we could bring it up a notch and get a result."
Davis & Elkins also faced No. 25 Lincoln Memorial in the nightcap, falling 7-0. The Senators put up a strong showing in doubles play, winning 6-3 at No. 2 behind Christopher Wirahadipoernomo and Yanev. Philipp Fedorchuk and Petersilie had match points at No. 3 doubles before falling in a tiebreak, 7-6 (5).
Singles matches were suspended due to travel time restrictions, with Lincoln Memorial leading on all courts.
