YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College track & field teams delivered an impressive showing at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational, setting multiple program records while competing against strong regional competition. The men's team, recently ranked No. 6 in the Atlantic Region by the USTFCCCA, and the women's team, ranked No. 10, showcased their depth and talent across multiple events.
Men's Highlights
The Senators dominated the distance events, with Tristan Blatt winning the 800m in 1:53.08, securing the 41st-best time in Division II this season and setting a new school record. Slate Swiger claimed victory in the mile, crossing the line in 4:16.91, while Jackson Gibson (4:14.17) and Cooper Gibson (4:14.84) posted top-100 national times in the elite mile race. Gabe Conder set a personal record in the 3000m with a time of 8:37.57, finishing sixth.
The Men's Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team of J. Gibson, Blatt, Ryan Rasco, and Swiger posted a stellar time of 10:11.84, which ranks fifth in Division II this season.
Ian Wood showcased his versatility in the heptathlon, setting a school record and recording top-six finishes in multiple events, including third place in the 60m hurdles (8.99) and second in the 1000m (2:53.51).
Women's Highlights
On the women's side, Savanna Hardman (5:13.01), Lydia Falkenstein (5:14.96), Zoe Belshan (5:23.35), and Sierra Taylor (5:26.30) all set personal records in the mile, with Hardman leading the team in fifth place. Lauren Twyman added another PR in the 3000m, finishing second in 10:15.29. Rebecca Tellez also set a new PR in the mile, finishing in 5:23.98.
The Women's DMR team of Twyman, Taytum Walls, Cameryn Wheeler, and Hardman posted a time of 12:21.48, currently the seventh-best mark in Division II this season and a new school record.
In the 5000m, Belshan (18:53.26) and Brooke Jacobs (19:07.47) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, while Wheeler and Ella Hesson also delivered strong performances in the 800m, finishing sixth and eighth.
"Another strong meet with many great performances, school records, and event wins!" said Head Coach Jason Pyles. "We haven't yet put in the faster track work due to the combination of the weather and the training phase we are in. It's a long season when looking long term to outdoor but we will sharpen up a bit more these next 3-weeks and look forward to rolling into MEC indoor championships ready to battle for some high individual finishes!"
