Senators Compete in Pioneer Open Hosted by Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins wrestling team opened its 2025 season Saturday at the Pioneer Open, hosted by Glenville State and sponsored by Go-Mart. The Senators finished 13th overall in a competitive field that featured several nationally ranked programs.

Jonathan Lattimore led the way for D&E in the heavyweight division, picking up a fall over Emmanuel's Frank Moore in 3:52 to advance to the championship quarterfinals. Lattimore later withdrew due to a medical forfeit.

At 157 pounds, Jeston Showalter recorded two wins on the day, including a first-period pin over Glenville State's Tommy Reed in 3:37. He also earned a decision victory against Findlay's Diego Chavez, 11-5, before falling in the consolation bracket.

In the 149-pound class, Logan Powell earned three wins, highlighted by back-to-back major decisions over Fairmont State's Armon Nettey (15-5) and teammate Geovani Santos (13-1). Powell also pinned Jordan Sexton of Emmanuel in 6:14.

Santos picked up a victory of his own with a 7-2 decision over UNC Pembroke's John Schulz.

At 165, Mat McNeil advanced through the consolation rounds with a fall over Waylon Holt of Emory & Henry in 2:06 before being forced to retire due to injury.

Heavyweight Aidan Maldonado earned a sudden-victory win, 8-5, against Emory & Henry's Seaton Tallent, while Ethan Lopez-Rosales and Elam Hart both competed in their collegiate debuts.

Host Glenville State captured the team title with 177.5 points, followed by Belmont Abbey (142.5) and Frostburg State (133.5). Davis & Elkins finished with 15.5 total points.

The Senators return to action Saturday, Nov. 8, when they travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia, to compete at James Madison University.
