FAIRMONT, W. Va. -- While the Davis & Elkins College women's golf team was unable to field a foursome for the Fairmont State Invitational tournament on Monday, golfer
Marina Saviceva-Noti put together a strong individual performance to take the win. The sophomore standout from Tampa, Fla. finished with a +8 to secure the victory at the Green Hills Country Club.
The first round started off with Saviceva-Noti and teammate
Gadea Melgarejo tied for the lead at +6 each, followed closely by Fairmont State's Marra Johnson at +7. But the second day of the tournament was where Saviceva-Noti really shined, carding a +2 and maintaining a 2-stroke lead over the next closest competitor to seal the win. Melgarejo ended up in fourth place at +19.
"I am super proud of Marina for getting her first outright win. She has been playing great so far this semester and I'm so happy she got the job done," said Head Coach
Patrick Smith. "Gadea tied her in round 1 and that was great to see two D&E golfers on the top of the leaderboard as Gadea finished in fourth. I'm excited to see what we can do in the next few tournaments."
