Thewes Conference Champion, 9 individual All-MEC finishes highlight MEC Championships

Frostburg, Md. – The Davis & Elkins Track teams finished up their MEC Championships with a strong showing highlighted by Jan Thewes winning the conference title in the 3000m steeple. In total the Senators had nine podium (Top 3 All-MEC) finishes for the team. The Senators also broke five school records in the championships.

Thewes time of 9:01.62 broke his own school record and was his third NCAA Provisional time of the season. Thewes is currently ranked 22nd in all of NCAA D2 in the event. He will have a couple more opportunities to continue to improve his time. The NCAA can take anywhere from 18 to 24 in the event to the national championships.

All-MEC top 3 podium finishes: 

Women
2nd Place - Savanna Hardman in the 10K running a school record (39:16)
2nd Place Ella Hesson in the 3K Steeple running a school record (11:47.92)
2nd Place - Lauren Twyman in the 1500m running a school record (4:41.41)

Men
1st Place – Jan Thewes in the 3K Steeple running a school record (9:01.62)
2nd Place - Charlie Stephenson in the 5K (14:46)
3rd Place - Ryan Rasco in the 800 (1:53.44) *Rasco ran a school record 1:52.54 in the prelims
3rd Place – Henry Schmidt in the 3K Steeple (9:21)
3rd Place – Henry Schmidt in the 10K (31:29)
3rd Place – Carter McKenna in the 1500 (3:56)

800 – Cameryn Wheeler (5th, 2:25) and Lauren Twyman (6th, 2:27)
1500 – Ella Hesson (6th, 4:57)

In the team scoring the men scored 84 points to finish 6th out of 10 MEC programs and only 9 points from 3rd Place in a tightly bunched 2nd through 6th competition. The women finished in 8th with 44 points. In total the Senators combined to score 118 points in the five distance events per gender.
