Buckhannon, W.Va. – Davis and Elkins defeated Shepherd University 7-0 in men's college tennis action Sunday. The Senators swept the doubles and then took all six singles in convincing fashion, dropping only two sets on the day in the non-conference contest.
Seniors
Kyle Hawthorne and
Vinicius Azeredo led D&E winning both singles and doubles, while freshman
Duarte Correia also turned the trick. Corriea teamed with fellow freshman
Sean Maphosa to win at #1 doubles before taking a 6-2, 6-1 decision at #1 singles over Shepherd's Alex Ganguly.
The Senators, playing for only the third time on the past 3 weeks due to the recent bout of inclement weather, enjoyed the sunny day in raising their record to 5-6 overall.
"We had a little rust to shake off in the doubles, but the guys got it going well enough by the end of the afternoon," said head coach
Mark Walters. "We have some big matches coming up this next two weeks to finish the season, and we still have some goals that are within reach. Hopefully we can get some regular reps and build up some momentum heading into the these regional and MEC matches."
