Box Score 2 St. Mary's, W.Va. -- The Senators picked up a split against West Virginia State on Sunday afternoon falling in game one 4-1 and picking up a win in game two 11-3.
Game 1 vs West Virginia State 4-1 Loss
West Virginia State jumped out to an early lead and their pitching held the Senators offense quit throughout the game. The Jackets scored two runs in the top of the first inning before adding one in the third and one in the fifth. The Senators would get on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning when
Lilly Saucedo hit a solo homerun.
Game 2 vs West Virginia State 11-3 Win
The Senator offense caught fire in game two to pull away with the victory. The Senators scored two runs in the first inning when when
Lilly Saucedo singled in a run and
Jules Gutierrez doubled in a run.
The Senators added to their lead in the second when
Linzey Allard hit a two-run homerun to make the score 4-0. The Jackets scored three runs in the third inning to cut the lead to 4-3.
The Senators offense scored four runs in the fifth inning on a solo homerun by
Ashlyn Zapach, a two-run homerun by
Jules Gutierrez and a sacrifice fly by Allard. They added three more runs in the sixth inning Zapach hit her second homerun of the game driving in two runs and
Maddie Lavelle hit a solo homerun.
Allard went 3 for 3 with a double, homerun, two runs scored and three RBI.
Zapach was 3 for 4 with two homeruns, two runs scored and three RBI.
Gutierrez was 3 for 3 with two doubles, a homerun, one run scored and three RBI.
Saucedo and Lavelle each collected two hits in the game.
