ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Davis & Elkins College men's and women's track and field teams delivered standout performances over the weekend, highlighted by record-breaking achievements at both the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open and the YSU College Icebreaker.

At the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale, Mich., senior Carter McKenna and junior Jan Thewes made history in the 5000-meter race. Both runners broke the previous school record, with McKenna setting the new mark at 14:17.24 to finish fourth overall. Thewes followed closely in seventh with a time of 14:20.84. Both times also met NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standards, cementing their status among the nation's top runners.

She was joined by strong performances from teammates Savanna Hardman (fourth, 17:44.66) and Lauren Twyman (eighth, 17:54.08).

In the middle distances, Taytum Walls secured a third-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.34. In the women's mile, Cameryn Wheeler led the team with a fourth-place finish in 5:19.94, followed by Sierra Taylor (sixth, 5:26.76) and Ella Hesson (seventh, 5:29.31).
