ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Davis & Elkins College men's and women's track and field teams delivered standout performances over the weekend, highlighted by record-breaking achievements at both the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open and the YSU College Icebreaker.
At the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale, Mich., senior Carter McKenna and junior Jan Thewes made history in the 5000-meter race. Both runners broke the previous school record, with McKenna setting the new mark at 14:17.24 to finish fourth overall. Thewes followed closely in seventh with a time of 14:20.84. Both times also met NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standards, cementing their status among the nation's top runners.
Meanwhile, at the YSU Icebreaker in Youngstown, Ohio, the Senators continued to impress. Freshman Tristan Blatt captured his first collegiate win in the mile race with a time of 4:13.73, while Lydia Falkenstein shattered the women's 5000-meter school record with a second-place finish in 17:43.12. She was joined by strong performances from teammates Savanna Hardman (fourth, 17:44.66) and Lauren Twyman (eighth, 17:54.08).
In the middle distances, Taytum Walls secured a third-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.34. In the women's mile, Cameryn Wheeler led the team with a fourth-place finish in 5:19.94, followed by Sierra Taylor (sixth, 5:26.76) and Ella Hesson (seventh, 5:29.31).
The Senators showcased their depth and talent across both meets, setting the stage for a strong indoor track season ahead.
