Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. – In front of a spirited Homecoming crowd at Nuttall Field, the Davis & Elkins College men's soccer team fought to a 2-2 draw against Salem (2-9-1) on Saturday. The Senators showcased their resilience, holding off the Tigers despite being down to 10 men for the final 28 minutes of the match.
Salem took an early lead with a goal in the third minute, but the Senators quickly responded. Just over a minute later, Joao Cavaletti found the back of the net with an assist from Yavi Ortiz, leveling the score at 1-1 as the teams headed into halftime.
In the second half, Johan Magaña put D&E ahead in the 57th minute, notching his fifth goal of the season. Salem quickly responded, however, scoring in the 60th minute to tie the game again.
The match took a turn when Santiago Maiolo was shown a red card in the 63rd minute, forcing the Senators to play with a man down. Despite the disadvantage, D&E's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Dante Ordenes' two key saves, held firm to secure the 2-2 result.
With the draw, D&E moves to 5-3-3 (3-3-2 MEC) on the season.
