ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins hasn't played since the last edition of the Division II College Sports Communicators (D2CSC) Men's Basketball Atlantic Region Poll was released and the Senators have dropped to the #10 spot with 13 points this week.
The Senators last played on December 9
th against Slippery Rock and pulled out a 94-85 victory to finish 2023 on a three game winning streak. Coming into 2024 the Senators have an overall record of 8-3 with a conference record of 4-1 which is currently third in the MEC.
California (Pa.) leads the poll for the third-straight week with 60 points and 6 first-place votes. East Stroudsburg jumped from 6
th in the last poll of 2023 up to second with 51 points, while Gannon dropped from second to third this week with 49 points.
Charleston is fourth this week with 33 points and is followed closely by Winston-Salem State in fifth with 32 points and West Liberty in sixth with 29 points. Millersville is seventh with 22 points and fellow MEC members Concord with 19 points and Fairmont State with 18 points round out the rest of the top 10 just ahead of Davis & Elkins in eighth and ninth respectively.
The Senators boast one of the stingiest defenses in the MEC, giving up just 74.0 points-per-game. They trail only Fairmont State (73.0) and Concord (73.7) in this category. They lead the league in opponent field goal percentage as opponents shoot just 38.1% from the field against them.
Offensively, D&E is third in team field goal percentage (46.9%) and second in team 3-point field goal percentage (36.6%).
Sam Rolle IV leads the Senators in scoring and is third in the league in scoring and fourth in scoring average at 16.5 points-per-game. He leads the MEC in assists (68, 6.2 avg/g). Nationally, he is tenth in assists-per-game.
Clarens Pierre leads the MEC in blocked shots with 24. He is sixteenth in the country in blocks-per-game with 2.18. Pierre is fifth in the MEC in total rebounds with 76 and averages 6.9 rebounds-per-game. His 3.45 offensive rebounds-per-game leads the league and is tied for twentieth in the country.
The Senators return to action tonight for the first time in 2024 as they travel to Slippery Rock for a 6:00PM tip.
