FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Davis & Elkins Track teams competed in rainy and cold conditions over three days at the Mountain East Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet was highlighted by four podium All-conference performances, one school record, and a total of eighteen scoring (top 8 finishes) performances.
The mostly distance-oriented roster competed in seven of the twenty-one conference events (400, 800, 1500, 5K, 10K, 3K steeplechase, and 4x400 relay). Only the top-16 declared times individually qualify for an event in the championships field, so the Senators battled all season long to put themselves into qualifying position.
Finishing as conference runners-up were sophomores
Carter McKenna (1500, 3:55) and
Ella Hesson (3K Steeplechase, 11:57). Hesson's time also took nearly 27 seconds off the school record she previously set.
Mckenna also completed a tough double coming back just two hours after the 1500 to finish just off the podium in the 5000m (4
th place, 14:58). McKenna is currently sitting in All-Region position in both the 1500 and 5000m.
Senior
Roxanne McFarlin finished off her great D&E career with another podium finish (3
rd place in the 400m). McFarlin graduates with six all-conference honors between both the MEC and GMAC.
Sophomore
Jan Thewes also had a podium finish in the 3K Steeplechase finishing 3
rd and just a little over a second from the runner-up position.
Other scorers in the meet for the women included freshman
Lauren Twyman (5

Most of the Senators now head into some recovery time before they start the long summer buildup to what hopes to be strong fall 2023 cross country season with many returners and a strong recruiting class added in to a team that finished 4
th (Men) and 8
th (women) in the Atlantic Regional Championships in the fall.
A few Senators will run in last chance meets over the next few weekends (WVU Last Chance and Lee University (Tenn.) Last Chance).
