Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston put four runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning and that was enough to knock Davis & Elkins out of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional as D&E fell 4-0.
D&E was solid defensively and
Alexa Uphold was able to regroup after the first inning and pitch five more scoreless innings, the Senator bats couldn't produce.
Charleston's Brianna McCown was overpowering in the pitching circle as she gave up just three hits over seven innings. McCown, one of the top pitchers in the Atlantic Region, is now 26-4 on the season.
Charleston got the scoring started when Hannah Rose scored on a Jeritza Montero ground out to third. Raegan West then knocked a two RBI triple to right field that scored Emma Groe and Allysa Lake. West scored the fourth run on a Brionna Bowman single to left field.
Lindzey Allard,
Ashlyn Zapach, and
Sharon Morales picked up hits for D&E.
Mia Ely reached base on an error and
Anjolina Gutierrez reached on a fielder's choice. Gutierrez and Morales each stole bases in the contest.
Uphold pitched six innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs. She struck out three batters.
D&E's season came to an end in its first-ever appearance in an NCAA Regional Tournament.
Charleston will move on to play Shippensburg on Saturday at 1pm for the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championships. They will play again at 4pm if Charleston wins in the double-elimination tournament.
