Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins carried a lead late into its first-round matchup with Shippensburg before falling 10-9 in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Softball Tournament.

D&E entered the tournament field as the #7 seed and jumped out to the lead early in the afternoon's second contest. In the first inning, Honesty Holt knocked a two RBI double to left center that scored Linzey Allard and Alyssa Haynes, putting the Senators up 2-0.

The Raiders struck back in the bottom of the inning as Taylor Myers scored on a Hannah Marsteller single. Caitlyn Martell then scored on a Morgan Lindsay single to right field. Marsteller scored Shippensburg's third run of the inning when Alyssa Nehlen reached on a fielder's choice and the Raiders led 3-2.

Shippensburg tacked on two more runs in the second inning. Marsteller again hit an RBI single. This time Myers scored on the hit. Martell then scored on a Lindsay single to right field. D&E found themselves trailing 5-2.

The Senators' bats got hot in the top of the fourth inning, scoring seven runs. Anjolina Gutierrez, Allard, and Kailynn Parks each hit two RBI singles. Haynes also contributed an RBI single in the inning and D&E jumped ahead 9-5.

Shippensburg began to chip away at the lead in the sixth inning. Kaira Zamadics hit an RBI single that scored Marsteller and the Raiders were within three.

In the bottom of the seventh, Martell hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Katelyn Minney. Marsteller then singled to right field and scored Ally Weaver. On the final play of the game, Lindsay flew out to right field and scored Myers then Marsteller scored as well on what was ruled an error and Shippensburg took the 10-9 victory.

Haynes went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI. Allard went 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Holt and Ely each had doubles in the contest and Hayes, Parks, and Morales each stole bases.

Vanessa Hunt pitched 6.1 innings, striking out three and giving up seven earned runs in the loss.

D&E will play the University of Charleston at 2pm Friday in a knockout game. Charleston lost its first game 2-to Kutztown.
