RICHMOND, Va.
-- The Davis & Elkins track teams opened the outdoor portion of their schedule this past weekend, competing at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond. The Senators had a great showing at the mostly Division I meet, earning many top-ten finishes.
Top performances on the women's side included three Senators breaking the 5:00 barrier in the 1500, led by freshman
Lauren Twyman (27
th, 4:56), followed closely by both
Anya Miller (30
th, 4:59) and freshman
Savanna Hardman (31
st, 4:59). The trio of sub 5:00 was a program best for the Senators. Freshman
Lauren Twyman (2:24) and senior
Hannah Moore, making her season debuts (2:28) had good showings in the 800m.
Senior
Roxanne McFarlin finished eleventh in the 400 (61.07).
On the men's side, top performances were achieved by the 1500 group. The group included five top-25 finishes led by junior
Jackson Gibson (5
th, 3:58), sophomore
Carter McKenna (6
th, 3:58), freshman
Konnor Allison (13
th, 4:00), freshman Martin Lucas (23
rd, 4:06), and sophomore
Juan Amann (25
th, 4:08). Gibson and McKenna's times are the second and third fastest in program history.
Five Senators ran in the 15's in the 5000m with junior
Gabe Conder leading the way with a 15:05 (8
th), followed closely by junior
Henry Schmidt in ninth (15:06). Both were in the seeded 5K. In the morning heats of the unseeded 5000m, sophomore
Jan Thewes (15:18), freshman
Bastian Luthmann (15:29), and junior
Thijs Terlouw (15:38) finished second, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
Freshman
Jonathan Griffin finished sixth in both the 200 (23.05) and 400 (50.73).
Up next for the Senators is another trip over the mountains to Virginia. This time, D&E will travel to Bridgewater College in Harrisonburg, Va. for the Doc Jopson Invitational, Saturday March 25, a meet that will mostly feature NCAA Division II and III programs.
