White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College women's golf team finished in fifth place in their last event of the season at the Greenbrier Collegiate Invite held on Monday and Tuesday. The Senators improved by 18 shots in round two on way to crushing the programs 18-hole previous scoring record.
On day one, the team shot a 337 which left them in fifth place of the nine teams competing overnight. Freshman of the Year
Lucrezia Speranza led the team with an 80 in round one, and fellow freshman
Michelle Guerra Landa was two shots behind with an 82.
Dorothy Romanek finished with an 87 and
Kaitlin Dixon rounded out the counting scores with an 88.
On Day two, the Senators showed huge improvements across the team with four of the starting five improving their score from round one. Romanek scratched 11 shots off her day one score to shoot a very impressive and career low tying score of 76. Her round included back-to-back birdies around the turn and a third on the par 5 16
th. Speranza had two birdies of her own on way to a 78 and tie for sixth place individually.
Michelle Guerra Landa struggled on her opening nine but recovered and steadied for a two over par back nine and signed for an 80.
Sierra Knowlton bounced back well taking nine shots less than day one, finishing with an 85 on day two. The team finished with a 319 in round two, which smashed the previous program 18-hole scoring record.
Madelyn St. Mary had a pair of 102's while playing in the event as an individual for the Senator's this week.
This week's action at the Greenbrier concluded what was a very successful spring 2022 season for coach
Alasdair Forsythe's women. It included a team victory, two individual victories for
Dorothy Romanek, a program scoring record and
Lucrezia Speranza being named Freshman of the Year in the Mountain East Conference.
