HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Davis & Elkins College men's tennis team battled Chowan University today in Hilton Head. The Senators earned the doubles point and went on to win five of the six singles matches to secure a 6-1 win.
The number one doubles team of
Viktor Yanev and
Andrew Shand won 6-3 over Chowan's Masara and Sormani.
Taiki Umeda and
Julian Tamburini secured the doubles point for D&E taking a 6-2 win at three doubles.
Hussain Hamide and
Vinicius Azeredo dropped a close one at number two doubles (7-5).
In singles action Yanev, playing number one singles, dropped the first set 0-6, but bounced back to take the second 6-4 and the tiebreaker 10-2. Umeda fell 2-6, 5-7 at number two singles.
Anthony Martins won at three singles 6-4, 6-2. Shand had an impressive 6-0, 6-2 win playing number four singles. At five singles
Kyle Hawthorne won the first set 7-6, (7-4) and the second set 6-3.
Vinicius Azeredo won 6-2, 6-0 at number six singles.
With the win the Senators improve to 2-1.
The Hawks drop to 1-3.
D&E hits the court again Saturday in Hilton Head taking on Barton College at 8:30am.
