CANTON, Ohio – The Senators added another school record and a Conference relay title in Day Two of the Great Midwest/Mountain East Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.
In the opening event of the evening's Finals, the women's 100 butterfly, both
Dru Mills and
Shelbey Fuller had big drops from their preliminary swims and were within striking distance of the school record in the event. Mills, swimming in the B-Final swam the race in 1:00.54, which was 1.08 faster than her preliminary swim. Fuller swam her C-Final race 2.89 seconds faster than her preliminary race in 1:00.70, finishing eighteenth. The school record stands at 1:00.46.
In the men's 100 butterfly,
Vignesh Muley finished twelfth with 52.38 and
Jiwh Santos was fourteenth with 52.63. Muley's preliminary race was just off the school record of 51.59 when he touched the wall at 51.75.
Becca Rodrigues had a nineteenth place showing in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:57.29, while four Senators scored in finals in the men's event. In the B-Final,
Enrique Garcia finished tenth in a time of 4:15.94 and
Geoff Dixon finished thirteenth in a time of 4:22.00.
Gage Vondrasek finished eighteenth swimming in the C-final in a time of 4:29.99 and
Payne McCann 20th with a time of 4:30.99.
Muley swam to a sixteenth-place finish in the 200 freestyle, the evening's final event.
In the evening's final event, the 400 medley relay, the Senator women's team of
Casey Hayford, Rodrigues,
Barbara Bernal, and
Bryanna Gollmer finish seventh with a time of 4:17.85.
The Senators capped off the night with a school record performance of 3:28.11 by Dixon, Garcia, Muley, and Santos. They broke their own record set three months ago in the same pool at the Malone Invitational. The Senators finished as Mountain East Conference Champions in the event.
Events on Day Three of the Championships include the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 800 freestyle relay.
