Canaan Valley, Wv. – The Davis & Elkins Women's golf team was victorious in their season closing event in the Dr. Wally Edgell Championship at Canaan Valley Resort this week. Freshman Paulina Narvaez picked up her first tournament win in just her second start for the Senators.
Day One
D&E would trail the University of California Pennsylvania by just a single shot after a solid day's work. Narvaez led the team with a 75 (+3), her lowest career round for the Senators that included two birdies. Sierra Knowlton shot a solid 80 (+8) that included a birdie 2 at the par three 12th hole, which was also her career low round. Lucrezia Speranza and Michelle Guerra Landa would sign for 81 (+9) and 83 (+11) respectively. Madelyn St. Mary finished with a 92 (+20) and the program's individual Kana Hayakawa would shoot a 129 (+57).
Day Two
The Senators would record the program's lowest team score in their history in round two with a 307 (+19) to claim a 16-shot victory over The Vulcans. Speranza led the team with a 73 (+1) which included four birdies in a six-hole stretch from her eighth hole to her thirteenth hole. Narvaez was next with a 76 (+4), with back-to-back birdies on her twelfth and thirteenth holes. This gave her a three-shot victory over Speranza who would finish in second. Knowlton would beat her career-low score from round one to shoot a 77 (+5) and finish in a career-best third place, to secure the top three individual places for the Senators. Guerra Landa finished with an 81 (+9), St. Mary signed for 93 (+21), and Hayakawa improved from day one to shoot 103 (+31).
