BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The Mountain East Conference released its nominees for the 2020-21 Play of the Year, opening up voting through Friday, June 25.
Davis & Elkins Play of the Year nominees consisted of a one-touch goal from
Daniel Cerezo and a sprawling save from
Marissa Cuevas.
Cerezo's sharp-angle goal came in the 15th minute off a throw-in, where he gathered the ball and turned his body and launched the one-touch strike into the far right corner for a 1-0 lead. D&E went on to win its regular season home finale in overtime, 3-2, against Alderson Broaddus back in April.
Meanwhile, Cuevas' stop came as part of a 12-9 home triumph over Charleston (W.Va.) in April. She raced back to her crease and dove forward to turn aside the quality scoring chance. Her save was featured on ESPN's weekly #LaxTop5 plays series at number three.
