NEW ORLEANS, La. — Davis & Elkins outdoor track & field had six student-athletes receive a total of 10 all-region honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced last week.
Benjamin Banda,
Tijmen Bouw,
Matthew Chapman,
Nokia Masengu,
Sterling St-Cyr and
Samantha Kirk all received recognition for Davis & Elkins, which set a new program record for number of all-region honors. To earn all-region recognition, individuals must rank in the top five in their event or top three in a relay within the region.
"The 10 all-region team honors is an exciting way to end what was a great season that we were thankful to even have," head coach
Jason Pyles said. "It was a program record number of all-region performers with many others just missing winning the honor."
Banda, Bouw, Masengu and St-Cyr picked up honors for the 4x400 relay. Banda collected honors in the 400-meter dash, while Masengu added three more all-region awards in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes.
Chapman continually improved in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Kirk earned recognition in the 400-meter hurdles.
Davis & Elkins returns the bulk of its roster next season, beginning with the cross country campaign in the fall.
