ELKINS, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston jumped out to four quick scores in the first half of the Mountain East Conference Tournament Championship Final to hand the Senators their first loss on the season 4-1.
The Golden Eagles found the back of the net four times on eight shots in the opening 45 minutes to put Charleston up 4-0. The Senators had a goal called back on an offsides call.
D&E was aggressive on the offensive end in the second half as they had nine shot attempts as they held Charleston to just two shots and no scores. The Senators were able to break into the scoring column late in the game when Daniel Cereza was fouled in the box with two seconds remaining and
Alex Estrada-Avila scored on a penalty kick.
Charleston earned an automatic qualification to the NCAA Regional Tournament with the win, while Davis & Elkins awaits Monday evening's Selection Show (for information, follow the link below) to learn their fate.
