ELKINS, W.Va. -- The Davis & Elkins Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recently elected four of its members to serve as the group's Executive Board.
Andrew Shand, a senior on the men's tennis team will once again serve as SAAC President. Shand is in his fourth year as a member of SAAC, having served as President the past two academic years. Shand is from Napier, New Zealand studying Sports Management and Accounting.
"I am so happy to lead the Senator SAAC group for the 2021-22 season," said Shand, "as this year can be above and beyond what we expect it to be. From so many opportunities that arise to us all as student-athletes in the world after Covid-19, this year will be a year where we can change and make our Code Red contests student-led and be more active than in the past. We will strive to leave an impression on fellow student-athletes and the campus community as a whole. As President, I am happy to listen to any concerns and issues and address them in the appropriate way. Go Senators!"
Robert Stephenson will serve as Vice President. Stephenson is a junior from Cooper City, Florida and a member of the men's lacrosse team. He is studying Business Management and Marketing.
"I am super excited to help bridge communication between the athletes and the athletic department," said Stephenson. "I also look forward to bringing some more enthusiasm to the planning of our home games and matches. I am very thankful for the opportunity to be Vice President and help SAAC function to its best capabilities and be helpful for all students and faculty."
Geoff Dixon is this year's SAAC Secretary. Dixon is a senior member of the men's swim team from Rushville, Ohio and is a Criminal Justice major.
"I am excited to represent and build upon the current 2021-2022 Senator SAAC group," said Dixon. "I hope to engage all members within our athletic department and to show more engagement throughout our sports. I also hope to fulfill any needs or concerns that I may come across while representing our Senators."
The final Executive Board member is
Casey Hayford, a junior on the women's swim team. Hayford is from Jacksonville, Florida. She is studying Biology with a specialization in Pre-med.
"By representing the women's swim team and being a part of the SAAC Executive Board in the 2021-2022 season, I am looking forward to being a voice for teams that may often be overlooked and help assist our athletic department in making our campus better for our student-athletes," said Hayford. "By being this voice, I hope to bring more interest, participation, and camaraderie to those teams and all teams throughout our department."
Head Softball Coach,
Elle Fracker serves as SAAC Advisor.
