ELKINS, W.Va. -- The Davis & Elkins volleyball team swept Frostburg State at home in a Tuesday evening Mountain East Conference matchup to win their second in a row and move to 4-1 in conference play.
Before a large home crowd on Code Red Night, the Senators found themselves trading points early in the first set. After the Bobcats tied the set at eight apiece, the Senators put together short runs of three and four points and pulled ahead for good. D&E won the first set quite handily at 21-15.
The second set was more tightly contested yet was a series of runs by both teams. D&E jumped out to a 4-1 lead early with
Macie Magallon serving up a pair of aces. After a service error, D&E went on another short run and was up 7-2. After trading no more than two points in a row on either team until the score was 17-10, Frostburg went on a six-point run with McKenna Houser serving and brought the Bobcats within one at 17-16. A short run with
Brilane Manchego serving yielded another four points for the Senators before the set being punctuated by a kill and a service ace by Magallon.
The Senators finished the sweep in set three with long service runs by Magallon and Manchego and kills by
Molly Jandris,
Brianna Portley,
Katie Beth Caudill, Manchego, and Magallon. D&E won the final set 25-16.
Magallon (14) and Jandris (13) combined for 27 kills. Magallon served up five aces. Manchego added 33 assists and
Mariah Autobee contributed 11 digs.
Next up for the Senators is a home match with Fairmont State on Friday, October 15 @7pm.
