THE OPENING TIP
Davis & Elkins men's basketball will hit the road on Saturday in search of its first win away from Elkins with a trip to West Virginia State for a 4:30 PM tipoff. The Senators battled back in the second half, but could not overcome its 22-point deficit to Charleston (W.Va.) in an 83-74 defeat on January 20. DAVIS & ELKINS NOTES
  • Sam Rolle IV, Breland Walton and Marcus Fleming all worked their way into double figures last time out against Charleston (W.Va.). That trio enters the weekend among the D&E leaders in nearly every statistical category.
  • Also impressing in his freshman season is Gyasi Powell, who is averaging 13.4 points/game. The Jacksonville, Fla. native has passed out four assists in each of the last two outings.
  • In a league with no shortage of potent offenses, the Senators have struggled from beyond the arc, converting just 28.7% of shots from deep.
  • Walton and Fleming each average a double-double for D&E, while Rolle IV leads the squad in assists (39) and steals (12). Walton and Fleming are second and third, respectively, in rebounding average in the MEC.
  • Kyle Leslie logged his first start of the season last Wednesday and fired in nine points with seven rebounds, one steal and a block.

SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA STATE
  • Veteran guard Glen Abraham paced the Yellow Jackets with 21 point and eight assists in a 94-89 road win against West Virginia Wesleyan. Anthony Pittman added his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds while Jeremiah Moore posted 19 points with eight boards.
  • Long-time head coach Bryan Poore is in his 22nd season at WVSU. Collecting over 300 victories, Poore returned to West Virginia State after spending three years as an assistant on Greg White's coaching staff at Marshall.
  • WVSU is getting it done on both sides of the floor, ranking seventh in the nation in scoring offense (93.2) and tied for sixth in blocks/game (4.6)
  • Abraham is second in the league in scoring average with 24.6 points/game. Moore is also in the top ten, ranking ninth in the league with 18.4 points/game, while also ranking first in field goal percentage (.593).
  • Pittman leads the conference in rebounding (12.6), also collecting 23 boards on the offensive end.
