PREVIEW: D&E Men Welcome Concord on Saturday

THE OPENING TIP 
Davis & Elkins men's basketball will host Concord on Saturday afternoon inside the McDonnell Center hoping to bounce back from a tough road defeat last time out against Glenville State. A young group that has held a multiple possession lead in each game this season, the Senators will look to close out games in the second half moving forward.
 
Concord enters at 2-1 on the season, fresh off a 73-69 home win against West Virginia Wesleyan.

  • How It Happened: In a pivotal MEC battle, the visiting Concord Mountain Lions held on despite a valiant Senator rally to knock off Davis & Elkins, 66-61. Erkam Kiris posted a team-best 14 points and Donte Doleman added 10 in an evenly-played matchup.

DAVIS & ELKINS NOTES
  • D&E suffered another tough road defeat against Glenville State last time out. Leading by as many as 13 in the second half, the Senators offense went cold down the stretch in a 90-85 decision.
  • Sam Rolle IV had the best performance of his brief D&E career on Wednesday, finishing with 29 points (12-18 FG), four rebounds and six assists in 38 minutes. It's the second consecutive game that Rolle IV, who now leads the team in scoring (58) and scoring average (19.3), has played 38 minutes for the Senators.
  • Breland Walton is averaging a double-double in the low block for the Senators. He enters Saturday second in the league in rebounding and has posted double-figure scoring in two of three games this season.
  • Marcus Fleming is also right near a double-double per game, posting averages of 18 points and 9.3 rebounds. The junior is shooting 58.3% from the floor and averaging 33.0 minutes/game.
  • Gyasi Powell (15.0 PPG) and Myles Monroe (10.3 PPG) are also averaging double figures for the Senators to account for the entire starting lineup.
  • The Senators are second in the MEC in field goal percentage (.475), fourth in field goal percentage defense (.414) and third in rebounding (43.7).
 
  
SCOUTING CONCORD
  • Concord has four players in double figures, led by Malik Johnson. Johnson stuffs the stat sheet with 16.0 points/game, 4.7 rebounds/game and 4.7 assist/game.
  • The Mountain Lions have won their two games by a combined six points, most recently a 73-69 home win against West Virginia Wesleyan. Liam Evans, the team's leading rebounder, paced all scorers with a career-high 22 points along with nine rebounds.
  • Ethan Heller ranks second on the team in scoring (13.0 PPG) and assists (4.5 APG). David Mulumba posts averages of 11.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.33 assists/game.
  • Head coach Todd May is in his fifth season at the helm of the Concord men's program. He has helped the Mountain Lions to consecutive MEC Tournament appearances.
  • The Mountain Lions are second in the league in scoring defense (73.3) and rebounding defense (35.7).
