NEW ORLEANS, La. – Davis & Elkins redshirt junior
Dalton Irvine was named an all-region selection by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as the organization released the 2020 NCAA DII indoor honorees on Monday afternoon.
A total of 1,614 athletes from 156 different institutions earned All-Region honors nationwide with 812 honorees coming from the men's side and an additional 802 from women's teams. To earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be one of the top-5 individuals in their events in their respective region. In addition, each member of a region's top-3 relay team was selected for the distinction.
Irvine, who becomes the first indoor all-region selection in Davis & Elkins program history, capped the indoor portion of the schedule with a win in the 60-meter hurdle prelims (8.18) and a second-place finish in the finals (8.20) at the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Indoor Championships. The Marlinton, W. Va. native hit an NCAA Provisional time in the 60-meter hurdles at the VMI Winter Relays on February 8.
He earned the MEC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award on February 11.
Davis & Elkins continues the track season with the outdoor opener on March 20-21 at Washington and Lee.
