Basketball Notebook: D&E Hoops Off to Glenville on Saturday

THE OPENING TIP
Davis & Elkins men's and women's basketball closes out the 2019-20 regular season with a final road swing, beginning this Saturday at Glenville State. Both Senators basketball teams suffered narrow defeats to Concord last Wednesday at the McDonnell Center, but look to bounce back in the stretch run of the season.

The Glenville women's team has reeled off a conference-best 15 consecutive wins, while the men's side has fallen in each of the last five outings.

D&E WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK
  • Jamiyah Johnson continues to roll in her junior season, extending her double-double effort to 22 games, the most in the country.
  • Johnson leads the team in scoring (18.9 PPG) and rebounding (15.3 RPG).
  • The Senators dropped a 117-85 decision to Glenville State in the first meeting of the season on January 15. Johnson had 31 points and 12 rebounds in that game, while Peyton Mohler added 11 points and four assists in 25 minutes against the Pioneers.
  • Sydney Nestor
  • D&E leads the MEC and ranks 17th in rebounding margin, holding a +8.5 margin on the boards.
  • Nestor has logged at least 10 points in eight consecutive games.
  • The Senators currently occupy the 10-spot in the MEC standings, holding a three-game lead over Frostburg State for 11th. The top 10 teams in the league advance to the conference tournament.
  • Jay Kilpatrick fired in 16 points and added four rebounds and three assists against Concord last time out.
  • The Senators converted just four three-pointers against the Mountain Lions and will likely need an uptick in their production from beyond the arc against Glenville State.

MEN'S BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK
  • Donte Doleman continues to pace the Senators offensively at 17.8 points/game, recording double digits in eight of the last nine outings. The senior guard is set for his 95th career appearance on Saturday against the Pioneers.
  • Erkam Kiris took his game to another level in the second half last time out against Concord, notching 12 of his 14 points in the final 20 minutes.
  • D&E posted one of its most impressive wins of the season against Glenville State back on January 15, a 79-73 home triumph inside the McDonnell Center. Doleman dropped 31 points in 39 minutes, including a clutch go-ahead trey as the shot clock expired with 1:23 remaining.
  • Emree Yildirim converted on three trey-balls against the Mountain Lions, providing another scoring option for D&E.
  • D&E needs to collect some wins over the last three games of the regular season and get some help from other teams to sneak into the conference tournament.
  • Myles Monroe returned to the lineup off the bench and has shown potential to be a dominant scorer for D&E. The junior guard is third on the team in scoring (13.1 PPG) and second in rebounding (5.5 RPG).
