The Senators Men's Tennis team snapped a long losing streak with a 7-0 shutout victory over Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday, and fell to regionally-ranked Southern Indiana 7-0 on Sunday.
The Senators jumped out to a doubles lead for the second match in a row against Kentucky Wesleyan, with
Andrew Shand and
Alvaro Legoinha winning 6-1 at #1 doubles, and
Obert Matthew Mulyadi and
Alejandro Meseguer winning 6-0 at #2 doubles. The Panthers forfeited the #3 doubles spot, as well as #5 and #6 singles due to an incomplete lineup.
Andrew Shand won his debut at #1 singles, blanking his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Cody Turner picked up his fifth win of the season by an identical 6-0, 6-0 score at #4 singles.
Cordel Bostic and
Jacob Bowman picked up their first wins of the season in the victory. Bostic won 6-0, 6-2 at #2 singles, and Bowman was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at #3 singles.
The Senators then made the short trip over to Evansville, Indiana to take on the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles, ranked #10 in the Midwest Region by the ITA.
Andrew Shand and
Alvaro Legoinha extended their win streak at #1 doubles to four with a 6-4 win.
Obert Matthew Mulyadi and
Alejandro Meseguer fell just short at #2 singles, dropping a back and forth match in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3).
In singles play, Mulyadi fought hard in two close sets at #1, losing 6-4, 6-4.
Alejandro Meseguer pushed his first set to a tiebreaker, but fell short 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. USI would sweep the singles matches for a 7-0 victory.
The Senators will return to action on the road at the University of Charleston on Wednesday. Start time is set for 4 PM.
