LEXINGTON, Ohio -
The Davis & Elkins College Senators tennis teams couldn't get anything going against non-conference opponent Ashland University in Ohio on Saturday.
The match was moved indoors to Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington, Ohio.
Ashland swept the doubles matches easily on the men's side, and
Alvaro Legoinha played a grueling match at #3 singles.
After dropping the first set 6-1, Legoinha upped his level to win the second set 6-3. The third set was a back and forth, exciting match that needed to be decided in a set tiebreaker.
Jordan Phelps of Ashland went up early, leading 6-3 with several match points, but Legoinha came back to tie at 6. Phelps would close out the match with the next two points to win 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6).
Ashland swept the other singles matches in straight set for a 7-0 victory.
In the women's match, the #1 doubles team of
Ester Bolmenas and
Taylour Newman continued their strong play, but came up just short, losing 7-6 (7-5) in a tiebreaker.
Ashland would roll through the singles points with ease for a 7-0 victory.
The Men's team will travel to Bluefield College for a match on Monday at 3:00 PM, while the Women will host West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday at 3:30 PM at home.
