Box Score 2 MARS HILL, N.C. - The Davis and Elkins College Softball team dropped a doubleheader 11-3 and 8-0 Friday at Mars Hills for a non-conference play.
The Senators started well in the first contest, scoring a run when
Brittany Wade singled to right field, scoring
Kelsie Millner, who was on third base in the top of the first inning.
The hosts would go on and tie the game in the bottom of the same inning and find a couple more runs throughout the game, making it 7-1 by the end of the fourth inning.
In the top of the fifth, D&E reacted and managed to score two more runs when
Alyssa Cairns homered to left center, scoring
Jordan Crawford, making it 7-3.
Unluckily, the home team still scored four more runs and didn't allow D&E to score anymore, finishing the game at 11-3.
Haley Grindstaff pitched 3.1 innings, getting 2 strikeouts for D&E.
Sara Tobin finished the game pitching 2.1 innings with one strikeout.
The second game of the day was tougher for the Senators, who only hit two balls and didn't score any runs.
Katelyn Cobb and
Jade Allee pitched for Davis and Elkins. Alle had one strikeout in the game. The final score was 8-0 for the home team.
The Senators´ next game is against Lincoln Memorial University this Saturday in Kentucky. The game is set for 10:00 AM.
