GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team opened up their season this weekend at the ITA Midwest Regionals with tournament play.
 
Alejandro Mesegner started off his tournament with a win in the Round of 64 in the A draw. Mesegner needed a third-set tiebreaker to defeat Nicolas Caviglia of Michigan Tech 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.
 
In the round of 32, Mesegner fell to Sebastien Lescoulie of Grand Valley State 6-1, 6-1.
 
Andrew Shand and Matthew Mulyadi both fell in their opening matches of the A draw. Shand fell to Augustin Diot of Drury 6-2, 6-2. Mulyadi fell to Jack Geissler of Grand Valley State 6-0, 6-4.
 
In consolation play, Shand was defeated 6-3, 6-1 by David Ambrozic of Lewis. Mulyadi went three sets in his consolation match but fell to Alex Puigmarti of Walsh 6-7(4), 6-1, 10-3.
 
In the B draw, Alvaro Legoinha also suffered a three-set defeat, falling to Jerry Hewitt of Hillsdale 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
 
In his consolation match, Legoinha fell to Erik Aarthun of Maryville 6-2, 6-3.
 
In doubles play Mulyadi and Mesegner played the only match for Davis & Elkins, falling 8-5 to Ben Brandherm and David Reinaurer of Northwood.
 
The Senators will return to action on October 2, as Davis & Elkins travels to Fairmont State for a 4 p.m. match.
