Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team fell to Lawrence Tech 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Senators picked up a point early with a doubles victory from
Obert Matthew Mulyadi and
Alejandro Meseguer. The Senators No. 1 duo needed and extra point to defeat Jan Horstkoetter and Stijn Bremer 9-7.
Andrew Shand and
Tristram Spitsnaugle also had a close battle in doubles, falling in the No. 2 match to Daniel Diaz and Mason Wenzel 8-5.
In singles play, the Senators were swept 6-0, but Meseguer and Shand each had tight battles that needed tiebreakers before they fell.
Meseguer defeated Javier Alvarez 6-4 in the first set, but fell 3-6 in set two, leading the match to a tiebreaker. Alvarez defeated the No. 2 Senator 11-9 in the tiebreaker to win the point.
Shand fell in his first set to Robert Saitov, 2-6, but then won 6-2 to force the tiebreaker. However, Shand fell in the tiebreaker 10-4.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Wednesday as the Senators take on Ferris State at 8:30 a.m.
