Box Score ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team picked up an 8-1 victory over the University of Virginia at Wise on Sunday at the Thomas Tennis Center.
The Senators jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as the Senators picked up a pair of quick victories.
Tristram Spitsnaugle and
Jacob Bowman earned the first victory after defeating Coleton Burke and John Hamilton 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles match.
Matthew Mulyadi and
Alejandro Meseguer also had a victory in doubles play, as the duo defeated Chris Armistead and Ethan Herron 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles match.
Once the match turned to singles play, the Senators took full control, as they swept the Cavaliers 6-0.
Spitsnaugle finished his singles match first defeating Herron 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 4 match.
In the No. 2 doubles match, Meseguer picked up a victory over Viktor Tunnikov 6-1, 6-0 for the Senators fourth point.
Mulyadi clinched the victory for Davis & Elkins when he defeated Andrii Rutnytskyi 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1 match.
With the match already decided, Bowman picked up his victory in the No. 6 match, as he beat Hamilton 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
Andrew Shand picked up an individual win in his debut as a Senator, beating Armistead 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 3 match.
Mason Schoonover also picked up a win with his 8-2 victory over Burke.
The Senators will now set their sights on the spring break trip in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Davis & Elkins opening match is set for 8 a.m. on March 4 against Chowan.
