Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team opened up its season with a win over West Virginia State University 9-0 this evening at the Charleston Indoor Tennis Facility.
 
The Senators started off strong with a pair of victories in doubles play. Obert Matthew Mulyadi and Alejandro Meseguer teamed up for an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles over Noah Fulks and Caleb Starkey.
 
Tristram Spitsnaugle and Jacob Bowman also picked up a victory in No. 2 doubles, winning the tie breaker 7-3 for a 9-8 victory.
 
Once in singles play, Mulyadi made quick work of Starkey in No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0.
 
It took Meseguer some time on long points to defeat Fulks at No. 2, but the Senator newcomer picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory in his first match for D&E.
 
Spitsnaugle and Mason Schoonover also made relatively quick work of their opponents Saturday night. Spitsnauglt defeated Ethan Cross 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 match, while Schoonover defeated Dylan Jayasuriya 6-3, 6-0.
 
Jacob Bowman had to go to a tiebreaker in his singles match as well. After defeating Jacob Stanly 6-3 in the opening set, Bowman fell 4-6 in set two. However, Bowman recovered to win the tiebreaker 11-9 for the point.
 
Cody Turner jumped out to a victory in set one 6-4 but fell 4-6 in the second set against Baylee Vankirk in the No. 6 match, forcing another tiebreaker. Turner picked up the win though, defeating Vankirk 12-10 in the tiebreaker.
 
The Senators will return to action on February 24, when they host Virginia-Wise in Elkins. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start.
