ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis program dropped a non-conference battle with West Liberty on Tuesday, falling 7-2 at the Thomas Tennis Center.
The Senators fell behind in doubles play, dropping all three matches, including a pair of tight points.
Ivan Bonderanko and
Tare Mariga fell in a close 8-5 battle in No. 1 doubles. However,
Jack Clifton and
Tristram Spitsnaugle had an even tighter battle in the No. 3 match, falling in a tie breaker 9-8 (10-3).
In singles action, Mariga and
Matthew Alexander both had come-from-behind wins to secure the two points for the Senators.
Mariga won the No. 2 match against Santiago Gutierrez 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7).
Alexander defeated Camilo Moncayo 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 4 match.
Samuel Vallieres also picked up a set win, earning the first set against Luke Flanagan, but fell in the No. 5 match 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2).
The Senators will return to action on Saturday in an exhibition match against Harford CC at the Thomas Tennis Center. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start.
