HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team fell to Chowan University 8-1 on Tuesday in the third event for the Senators on the week-long spring trip in South Carolina.

The Senators picked up their lone victory in the match in No. 1 Doubles, as Tare Mariga and Ivan Bonderanko defeated Farid Hajizada and Adi Kaliakperov 8-6.

Tristam Spitsnaugle and Jack Clifton fell short in No. 3 doubles, but only by a tiebreaker in a 9-8 decision.

Bonderanko, Mariga and Clifton all had needed third sets in their singles matches, falling in a highly-competitive match against the ranked team.

Bonderanko recovered from a loss in set one, but eventually lost in No. 1 singles to Kaliakperov 4-6, 6-4, 10-2.

Mariga also overcame a first set defeat to force a third set before falling 3-6, 6-1, 10-0 to Hajizada in No. 2 singles.

Clifton had the closest third-set tiebreaker, falling 10-5 after he traded 6-1 sets with Mariano Yeh in No. 4 singles.

The Senators will look to return to winning ways on Wednesday as they play Tusculum at 8:30 am.
