CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team picked up a 6-3 win over Cedarville University on Saturday to open Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
The Senators jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play as the team pairing of
Ivan Bonderanko and
Tare Mariga won 8-2 over Matt Brumbaugh and Jonathan Class in No.1 doubles.
Jack Clifton and Tristam Spitsnaugle also earned a victory with an 8-6 win over Alex Totten and Stephen Combs.
The four winners in doubles would also be the singles winners for the Senators on the afternoon.
Bonderanko won in No. 1 singles over Brumbaugh 6-3, 6-1. Mariaga also picked up a straight-sets win, defeating Totten 6-2, 6-3 in No.2 singles.
Spitsnaugle earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Jeremy Hoover in No. 6 singles.
Clifton had a tough battle in set one, winning 7-6 with an 8-6 tie-breaker, before settling in with a 6-1 victory to close out his match.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on March 29, playing at West Virginia State. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start in Institute, West Virginia.
