CANTON, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team fell 9-0 in its spring opener on Friday to Walsh University at the Hall of Fame Tennis Courts.
The Senators (0-2) fell behind early to the hosts, as Walsh (6-1) swept through doubles action.
The team of
Tare Mariga and
Ivan Bonderanko fell in a tight battle 9-7 to Ross Whittaker and Felix Zimmerman in the No. 1 Doubles match.
Jack Clifton and
Tristram Spitsnaugle also fell in a tight battle at the No. 3 Doubles position to Jonah Carter and Tim Bruin, also 9-7.
In singles action, Clifton had one of the tightest first sets, falling in his opening set 7-5 to Zimmerman. However, he was defeated 6-0 in the second set.
Samuel Vallieres also had a tight first set, falling 6-4 to Rodrigo Garcia. However, Vallieres had to retire in the second set.
Davis & Elkins will return to action tomorrow with day one of the Morgantown Invitational hosted by Fairmont State.
