Box Score 2 GLENVILLE, W. Va. — Davis & Elkins softball fell in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Glenville State on Sunday afternoon, losing 7-2 in game one and 5-4 in a hard-fought second game. The Senators showed flashes of offense in both contests but came up just short against the Pioneers.
Game One: Glenville State 7, Davis & Elkins 2
Glenville State jumped on Davis & Elkins early and built a 7-0 lead before the Senators rallied in the sixth inning. Kylee Goodma doubled down the right-field line in the second inning to drive in Hannah Howe, and Lillian Burn followed with an RBI single that scored Emma McLean, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. Glenville State added two more in the third and three in the fourth, including a two-RBI sacrifice fly from Zailees Seda that highlighted a productive inning for the home team.
The Senators cut into the lead in the sixth. Trinity Fleming delivered a two-RBI single, bringing Ashlyn Zapach and Lorena Ruiz-Rubio across the plate. Sammie Jarvis singled twice, including a stolen-base knock, and Ashlyn Zapach added a double, showing the Senators' fight in the late innings.
Megan Stump earned the win for Glenville State, while Alyssia Munoz took the loss, allowing two runs in 2 2/3 innings. Jarvis pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief, surrendering seven runs, but provided a spark at the plate.
Game Two: Glenville State 5, Davis & Elkins 4
The second game was a back-and-forth battle. April Belcher led the Senators at the plate, going 4-for-4 with an RBI single in the second inning that helped spark the offense. Davis & Elkins rallied for four runs in the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-4, with Jarvis, Ruiz-Rubio, and Ashlyn Zapach each delivering key RBI hits. Madison Smith added a run on a stolen base, and Isabelle Thomas also crossed the plate, highlighting the Senators' depth in the lineup.
Glenville State responded with an unearned run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Shelby McDaniels to edge the Senators 5-4. Saylor Kneeland pitched 6 1/3 innings, striking out five while allowing five runs, keeping Davis & Elkins within striking distance throughout the contest. Kylie Burdick earned the win for the Pioneers.
Despite the losses, Davis & Elkins displayed resilience, putting together multiple rallies and showcasing standout performances from April Belcher, Sammie Jarvis, Lorena Ruiz-Rubio, and Ashlyn Zapach. The Senators fall to 7-25 overall.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Friday, April 3, traveling to Salem, W. Va., for a non-conference doubleheader against Salem University. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., with game two set for 2:00 p.m.
