INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins men's tennis earned a 5-2 Mountain East Conference victory over West Virginia State on Wednesday afternoon.
The Senators secured the early doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The duo of Justus Petersilie and Philipp Fedorczuk claimed a 7-5 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Christo Wirahadipoernomo and Tom Strohschein added a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles to give Davis & Elkins the advantage heading into singles play. West Virginia State took the No. 3 doubles match.
Davis & Elkins won four of the six singles matches to secure the team victory.
Tom Strohschein recorded a straight-set win at No. 4 singles, defeating Lindeque 6-3, 6-3. Santiago Ordonez followed with a 7-5, 7-6 victory at No. 6 singles.
Christo Wirahadipoernomo battled back for a three-set victory at No. 3 singles, defeating Suklian 1-6, 7-6, 7-5. Filippo Buffo also earned a key three-set win at No. 5 singles, edging W. El Hanafi 7-5, 6-7, 10-8 in a match tiebreak.
West Virginia State picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Sunday, March 29, when the Senators host West Liberty at 12:00 p.m. in Elkins, West Virginia.
