ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's golf team placed fourth at the Appalachian Collegiate, hosted by Pitt–Johnstown at Blacksburg Country Club in Blacksburg, Virginia, over two rounds on March 23–24.
The Senators finished the event at +38 as a team after rounds of +24 and +14, finishing behind Pitt–Johnstown, Pitt–Johnstown (B), and Indiana (Pa.) in the seven-team field.
Hugo Mayorga paced Davis & Elkins with a strong two-round performance, highlighted by a second-round 70 (-2), the lowest round of the tournament for the Senators. Mayorga finished the event at +4 overall after opening with a 78 in round one before surging up the leaderboard on the final day.
Wouter Vondeling also posted a solid outing for the Senators, finishing at +12 with rounds of 80 and 76. Lucio Pavicich followed closely behind, carding rounds of 81 and 77 to finish at +14 for the tournament.
Luke Grilliot rounded out the scoring lineup for Davis & Elkins, finishing at +13 with rounds of 78 and 79.
As a team, the Senators improved by 10 strokes from the opening round to the second round to secure the fourth-place finish in the competitive field.
Davis & Elkins will return to the course March 24–25 at the Bobcat Spring Open, hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan College at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, West Virginia.
