ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins men's tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Kutztown on Sunday afternoon at the Thomas Tennis Center.
The Senators swept doubles to set the tone. Philipp Fedorczuk and Justus Petersilie earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, Tom Strohschein and Simon Kiekbeld battled to a 7-6 victory, taking the tiebreak 7-3. Filippo Buffo and Christo Wirahadipoernomo finished off the sweep with a 6-2 decision at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Fedorczuk pulled out a three-set thriller at No. 1, winning 7-6, 6-7, 3-3 (ret.). Petersilie followed at No. 2 with a 6-6, 3-2 (ret.) result to claim another point. Santiago Ordonez battled at No. 3, holding a 6-6, 2-1 lead when his match was halted. Buffo added to the tally at No. 4 with a 6-6, 2-2 (ret.) win. At No. 5, Wirahadipoernomo fell 8-5, giving Kutztown its lone point of the day. Strohschein closed the match at No. 6, cruising to an 8-3 victory.
The Senators return to action Thursday, Oct. 2, when they travel to Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, Pa.
