Baseball Drops Two at Concord to Conclude Weekend Series

ATHENS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins was swept in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader by Concord on Saturday at Anderson Field, dropping game one 5-2 and falling in the nightcap 13-0.

In the opener, Concord (20-12, 11-3 MEC) struck early with a three-run home run in the first inning. The Mountain Lions added runs in the third and fourth to stretch the lead to 5-0.

D&E (4-25, 3-11 MEC) answered with two runs in the fifth inning. Jett Walters singled and later scored on a bases-loaded walk, and Grant Mealey delivered an RBI single, but the Senators were unable to cut further into the deficit.

Ethan Marshall (1-4) took the loss for D&E, allowing five runs over six innings while striking out two. Larry Kusan led the Senators at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort, while Mealey went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

In game two, Concord exploded for 13 runs across the first three innings and never looked back in a 13-0 shutout win.

D&E was limited to just three hits in the nightcap, with Joseph De La Nuez, Kusan, and Zach Calef-Boring each recording singles. The Senators left four runners on base and were unable to get a runner past second base.

Freshman Diego Reyes (1-3) started and lasted just a third of an inning, allowing four earned runs. Six pitchers appeared in the contest for the Senators, with Dylan Miller and Jack Murphy combining for 3.1 scoreless innings of relief.
