Baseball Overwhelmed by IUP Offense

ELKINS, W.Va. – Indiana University of Pennsylvania erupted for 24 hits and scored in seven of nine innings, cruising past Davis & Elkins College, 20-2, in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Harpertown Field.

The Senators (4-26, 3-11 MEC) were overwhelmed by a relentless IUP (12-19, 7-5 PSAC) offense that plated five runs in the fourth and added nine more over the final three innings to put the game out of reach.

D&E struggled on the mound, using six pitchers throughout the contest. Starter Ethan Marshall (1-5) was charged with the loss after allowing seven earned runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings of work. The Crimson Hawks tagged relievers for 13 more runs, including four off Chase George in just a third of an inning.

Offensively, the Senators managed seven hits, including a pair each from Grant Mealey and Mason Brenneman, and pushed across their only runs in the bottom of the third. Mealey singled home Zach Calef-Boring after Cort Kegley scored on a wild pitch.

The Senators return to conference play this weekend when they host the University of Charleston in a four-game series at home.
