WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Davis & Elkins College baseball team wrapped up its spring break tournament at the RussMatt Invitational with a 5-1 loss to Minnesota Crookston on Saturday at Chain of Lakes Field.
The Senators (1-9) struggled to find offensive momentum, scoring their lone run in the third inning. Senior outfielder Larry Kusan led the D&E offense with a 2-for-4 performance, including a double, while Kyle Thomas added a double and drew two walks. Zach Calef-Boring recorded the team's only RBI.
On the mound, starter Cooper Blackburn (0-3) put together a solid outing despite being charged with the loss. The right-hander worked 6.2 innings, allowing four runs (none earned) on two hits while striking out four and walking four. Ethan Marshall came on in relief, pitching 1.1 innings, surrendering one run on two hits.
Minnesota Crookston (6-7) managed just four hits but capitalized on scoring opportunities, plating two runs in the second inning, two more in the seventh, and adding one final run in the eighth.
