Game 1: Salem 8, D&E 0
ELKINS, W.Va. —Salem (WV) took advantage of Davis & Elkins' defensive struggles, scoring early and often to secure an 8-0 victory over the Senators in game one of their doubleheader on Friday (Mar. 14) afternoon at Harpertown Field.
D&E (1-11) committed seven errors and managed just five hits as Salem (4-11) plated runs in five different innings. The Tigers struck first with a run in the opening frame and added another in the second before pushing across two more in the third for a 4-0 lead.
A three-run sixth inning put the game out of reach as Salem capitalized on miscues and timely hitting.
The Senators struggled offensively against Salem's pitcher, with Joseph De La Nuez, Zach Calef-Boring, Mason Brenneman, Grant Mealey and Larry Kusan each recording one hit apiece. Starting pitcher Ethan Marshall took the loss, surrendering eight runs (four earned) over 5.2 innings, allowing nine hits and three homers while striking out two.
Game 2: Salem 9, D&E 5
Salem jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Davis & Elkins 9-5 in the second game of their doubleheader.
The Tigers (5-11) plated two runs in each of the first three innings before adding insurance runs in the sixth and seventh to complete the sweep.
D&E (1-12) struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, but the offense stalled until a late rally in the seventh. Isaac Lane provided a two-run single in the final frame, while Joseph De La Nuez and Zach Calef-Boring each had an RBI.
On the mound, starter Cooper Blackburn (0-5) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings while striking out none and hitting two batters. Dylan Miller entered in relief, tossing 0.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout. Chase George followed with two shutout innings, scattering three hits and striking out one. Kyle Ball pitched 0.2 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and one hit batter. Carson Gorby closed out the game, allowing one run on two hits in 1.1 innings while striking out two.
