ELKINS, W.Va. – Despite controlling the paint, Davis & Elkins College fell to West Liberty University 76-58 in Mountain East Conference action Wednesday evening at the McDonnell Center.
The Senators (2-17, 1-12 MEC) started strong, outscoring the Hilltoppers 16-12 in the first quarter. However, offensive struggles in the second half, combined with turnovers, allowed West Liberty to pull away.
Josiany Canales led D&E with 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Rebecca Kaba contributed 10 points and four rebounds, while Kylie Morris and Jackie Wright each added eight points. The Senators dominated inside, scoring 32 points in the paint and grabbing 15 offensive rebounds, leading to 14 second-chance points.
Defensively, Davis & Elkins forced 21 turnovers and recorded 12 steals, with Jahniya Marion and LaChazity Shaver each swiping two. However, the Senators were unable to slow West Liberty's three-point shooting, as the visitors knocked down 16 triples.
