WHEELING, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins women's basketball team struggled offensively in the fourth quarter, falling to Wheeling 71-43 in a Mountain East Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at the Alma McDonough Center.
D&E (2-18, 1-13 MEC) remained competitive through three quarters, trailing 53-41 heading into the final period. However, the Senators were held to just two points in the fourth, while Wheeling (13-9, 9-5 MEC) pulled away with an 18-point frame.
Jackie Wright led D&E with 13 points, knocking down three 3-pointers and grabbing four rebounds. LaChazity Shaver and Josiany Canales each added nine points, with Canales pulling in six boards. The Senators shot just 25.4% from the field (15-for-59) and 30.4% from beyond the arc (7-for-23). The Cardinals dominated the glass with a 41-28 rebounding edge and outscored the Senators 32-10 in the paint.
