Senators Break Records, Win Team Titles in Delaware, Ohio

DELAWARE, Ohio — Davis & Elkins men's and women's swimming swept the team titles at the Corbiere-Merion Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Nov. 22–23, finishing ahead of Ohio Wesleyan, Heidelberg, Wilmington, Hanover and West Virginia Wesleyan. The Senators combined for 22 event victories and multiple school records across the weekend.

The women's team earned seven individual victories and three relay wins. Freshman Anikka Peterson led the Senators with wins in the 500 freestyle, 400 individual medley and 200 breaststroke. She also contributed to two relay victories, swimming on the 400 medley relay with Daphne McCann, Julianne Hobson and Savannah Foley, and on the 800 freestyle relay with Lauren Lockwood, Hobson and Foley.

Lockwood added two individual wins of her own, taking the 100 butterfly and the 200 butterfly, where she set a new school record. McCann collected a win in the 100 freestyle, and Grace Janas secured the victory in the 1650 freestyle. The women also won the 400 freestyle relay, where Lockwood, McCann, Foley and Hobson combined for a school-record time.

The men's team claimed eight individual victories and four relay wins. Sophomore Lasse Schrieken produced an NCAA B-cut performance by winning the 200 individual medley and added another win in the 200 breaststroke. He also broke school records in the 100 backstroke during a relay lead-off and in the 100 freestyle.

Freshman Jan Spehar recorded wins in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Freshman Charlie Whitsed added a victory in the 100 breaststroke. Freshman Leonardo Oshiro earned individual wins in the 200 breaststroke and the 100 individual medley, while freshman Gustavo Queiroz won the 50 freestyle.

Davis & Elkins also swept four men's relays, taking first place in the 200 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay, 800 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay. The 400 freestyle relay of Schrieken, Spehar, Queiroz and Leonardo Vallerini set a school record in its win.

The women finished with 873 points to lead the field, while the men totaled 877 to secure the top spot. The Senators return to action on Dec. 5.
