PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Freshman Jahniya Marion delivered a breakout performance with a career-high 26 points on 50% shooting from the field, but Davis & Elkins College fell short in a 72-64 loss to Point Park University on Wednesday night at CCAC-Allegheny.
Marion was the spark for the Senators (1-16, 1-11 MEC), adding four rebounds and four steals while knocking down 10 of 20 shots from the floor. Her aggressive play kept D&E in the contest, particularly in the second half, where the team put up 42 points.
Davis & Elkins trailed 27-22 at halftime but responded with a strong third quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 20-19 behind Marion's scoring surge. Despite a resilient effort, the Senators could not hold off Point Park (6-12, 4-8 MEC), who sealed the win with a 26-point fourth quarter.
Alexis Smith contributed 10 points and five assists, while LaChazity Shaver added nine points and three assists for the Senators. D&E forced 20 turnovers, converting them into 22 points but struggled on the boards, getting outrebounded 47-30.
This matchup marked the second meeting between the two teams this season. In their previous contest, Davis & Elkins secured its lone conference victory of the year.
